When the Ferndale City Council finally scrapped outdated zoning that prohibited tattoo shops downtown, it was only a matter of time before one would pop up. Signature, an artist-run venture co-owned by prominent tattoo and underground artists Dan Rick and Mark Heggie, opened its doors in October 2010. Signature’s artists create all of their own designs rather than relying on commercial razzle-dazzle, but it’s not the ink that grabbed our readers’ attention. The skill and creativity of the resident needle-wielders get the honors again this year.
