City Slang: Detroit’s youngest rocker

Dec 1, 2011 at 9:57 am

City Slang has always been and will always be about Detroit music, but please forgive me a moment of self-indulgence. On November 23 at 2:21 p.m., my son, Dylan Edward Callwood, was born.

Both Dylan and my wife, Toni, are healthy, well and strong. He is, quite frankly, perfect. I know all parents say that, but he truly is.

He’s named after Bob Dylan. I know Bob isn’t a Detroit artist, but I just couldn’t get my head around Iggy Edward, Seger Edward, Alice Edward, Ted Edward (LOL) or, God forbid, Violent J Edward.

So I’m a proud daddy and husband right now. And if ever further proof was needed that I made the right decision when moving from London to Detroit (not that it was), then I only have to look down at Dylan’s big eyes.

He’s 50% Detroit, 50% English. What could be cooler? Did I mention that he is perfect yet?

So wherever you are, raise a glass, a cigar, a coffee mug or a bagel to Dylan for me. You’ll be seeing him at shows in about 18 years.

And thanks to everyone who sent well wishes to Toni and myself already. All three of us are more delighted than ever to call Metro Detroit our home. You guys are the very best.
