Sick sixers | When a six-pack release is announced, craft brew fans buzz around Kuhnhenn Brewing Co. like yellow jackets buzz around a beer can. It's happening again this week: Kuhnhenn will be releasing a limited amount of six-packs, price and limit to be determined. There's the TRIPA, a triple-rice IPA with a big malty character and hops at the forefront, packing 11.5 percent ABV. There's also the Simcoe Sillier, a more extreme version of the microbrewery's Simcoe Silly, with tropical fruit notes and even a hint of bubble gum, coming in at 11.2 percent ABV. They caution that these beers are sure to sell out by mid-day, so you've been warned. Doors open at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at Kuhnhenn Brewing, 5919 Chicago Rd., Warren; 586-979-8361.

What's on Tap | Have you taken in a game at Tap, the over-the-top sports bar inside MGM Grand Detroit Casino? Their creative menu runs from deep-fried macaroni and cheese to inventive "TV dinners," their tap system pours plenty of Michigan craft beers, and they have a gazillion flat-screen televisions, as well as a collection of priceless sports memorabilia on display. If you haven't seen it yet — or even if you have — consider their five-course beer dinner, taking place this week. Each course, from appetizers to dessert, will come with a craft beer from a Michigan brewery, and choices include tomato bruschetta, fried chicken with butterbean-poblano succotash, chorizo meatloaf with pan-roasted fingerling potatoes and more, all in Tap's private dining room. It all takes place at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Tap, inside MGM Grand Detroit, 1777 Third St., Detroit; $40 plus tax and tips, purchased directly from servers at Tap; 21 or older only.

Ride the snake | The good people at Detroit's Rattlesnake Club have put together another installment of their chef's dinner series. The restaurant's executive chef, Chris Franz, has designed a menu to be parised with wines from Napa Valley's Ehlers Estate, a winery, located in the northern St. Helena region of the valley since 1886. These days, they produce wine through organic and biodynamic cultivation. Event is at 6 p.m., Sept. 30, at the Rattlesnake Club, 300 River Place Dr., Detroit; 313-567-4400; reservations are $120, and can be purchased at rattlesnakedetroit.com.

Hamtramck keeps popping | The dining scene in Hamtramck has seen a lot of changes in the last year, from the opening of Revolver and Rock City Pies to the recent reincarnation of Campau Tower as the Americana Eatery. Now, a new pop-up enters the fray in the form of Yemans Street, the project of husband-and-wife team Matt and Corie Tinker. The action takes place in an old machine shop at 2995 Yemans St. that has been restored with reclaimed barn wood and a lot of TLC. They kick things off this week with a meal from Jay Gundy, the chef at Pleasant Ridge's Cork restaurant. That five-course meal takes place at 7 p.m. Sept. 26, and goes for $65 per person. Actually, reservations may be full up by now, but it looks as though reservations for future dinners, taking place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, can be made at yemansstreet.squarespace.com.

Firefighters' fête | Hamtramck also celebrates something old this week, with the gala marking the 100th anniversary of the Hamtramck Fire Department. Featuring dinner from Polish Village Café, an open bar, and a performance by the Polish Muslims, the event honors a century of service by Hamtramck firefighters. Tickets are $50, available at the firehouse on Caniff Street, RSVP requested. The fun starts at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at P.N.A. Hall, 10211 Conant St., Hamtramck; for more information, call 313-876-7778 or see hamtramckfirefighters.com.

Playing squash | We're coming up on the fall harvest season, and it's time for one of the big autumn events at Frankenmuth's Bavarian Inn. It's the "Squash Roundup," in which hundreds and hundreds of Blue Hubbard squashes, literally tons of them, are harvested from the Weiss family farm and delivered to the restaurant, unloaded by the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church Youth Group, no less! The result is a "gigantic bluish-grayish 'squash mountain'" that draws gawkers from all over. Many of those squashes will appear on the inn's tables, as soups, sides and as a key ingredient in the establishment's pumpkin pies. Get a little local color — in this case, blue-green — on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Bavarian Inn, 713 S. Main St., Frankenmuth; 989-652-9941; for more info call 989-652-9941 or see bavarianinn.com.
