UPDATED: Domino's new delivery fleet design with your pizza's safety in mind

Because images of a pizza whose cheese is glued to the top of the box due sloppy driving is on your mind every time you order delivery, Domino's has introduced a new fleet designed to protect your pie. The Ann Arbor-based chain has unveiled what amounts to a souped-up Chevy Spark, specially equipped with with a built-in warming oven and seating has been replaced to keep all your pizza, wings and bread sticks safe and sound.
According to CNN Money, the fleet is known as the Domino's DXP (Delivery Expert), and the vehicles are capable of holding as many as 80 pizzas at a time. Just when we thought there were no more innovations in pizza delivery.

UPDATE: We hit up a Domino's spokeswoman who shared with us some more details about this new fleet. In a statement, the company says the design and production of the Domino’s DXP took more than three years. Through a call for entries on the concept of the vehicle, Domino's received nearly 400 entries from designers all over the world. One hundred delivery cars will go to 25 markets across the U.S., including in Detroit over the next few months.

Does this new technology seem gimmicky? Maybe. But no more so than the pizza maker's other recent move to allow customers to Tweet their orders, a feature that further intertwines virtual reality with IRL. And hey, seems like it's about time for Michigan's two major exports, chain pizza and cars, to finally work together.
