The Congregation
9321 Rosa Parks Blvd., Detroit; 313-307-5518; thecongregationdetroit.com
A former Boston-Edison church was transformed into a new cafe and bar concept called the Congregation last year, and they allow dogs! Hallelujah! The space operates as a cafe in the mornings, serving Great Lakes coffee from the espresso bar and selling pastries sourced from Good Cakes and Bakes, Terri’s Cakes, and Eat Good Cookies, and in the evenings, it serves from a small menu with items such as flatbreads, soups, and salads. Along with food, it also serves cocktails, wine, and a selection of beer.

There’s nothing quite like the patio of Detroit’s iconic Old Miami. The 40-plus-year-old veteran's bar along Cass Corridor might offer one of the biggest patio/backyard spaces of any of the entries on this list — and probably has the most affordable drinks, too. It has an outdoor bar, stage area, ample seating, and a big beautiful dog-friendly lawn to do whatever you damn well please. Well, almost anything: Don't forget to clean up after your pooch!

Detroit Fleat
1400 Porter St., Detroit; 313-338-8008; detroitfleat.com
Ever wonder where all the good food trucks are? Well, thanks to Detroit Fleat (which is actually in Ferndale), all you have to do is show up hungry. Oh, and bring your dog, too, because they're also welcome to join in the fun. In addition to centralizing metro Detroit's most popular food trucks, Detroit Fleat offers a festive outdoor dining space where humans and canines can come together over gyros, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and crepes — just maybe not at once.
