Sweet Lorraine's Mac n' Brewz! soft opens in Midtown

With this week's crummy weather, comfort food can't come soon enough: The newest spinoff for Michigan-based chain Sweet Lorraine's Fabulous Mac n' Cheez! is set to open Monday across the street from Wayne State University in Midtown.

The outlet, known as Sweet Lorraine's Mac n' Brewz!, soft opened Tuesday, giving cold and hungry college students a peek at the spot's 15 styles of macaroni and cheese dishes, plus salads, wraps, and grilled cheese. On top of that, this new branch offers a full bar that includes a number of Michigan craft beers, cocktails, and "boozie" smoothies.

The location sits on the corner of Warren and Cass, in the old Marwil Bookstore. The spot has a retro diner vibe, with sparkly upholstered bar stools, and features an aesthetic that pays homage to the former text book shop, with chalkboard menus and murals throughout and a cafeteria-style set up.

The menu plays heavily on the comfort food theme, with mac and cheeses in pepperoni pizza, bacon and cheddar, Coney dog, and even pulled pork BBQ varieties.

The spot is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this week, but plans to stay open until 11 p.m. beginning Monday.
