An image of Forest Arms pre-renovation, after a 2008 fire gutted the building.
By now, most of us know that refurbishing historic properties helps stimulate the economy in a way that new construction can't. But what's will surprise you is that one recent renovation even helped a local cake business.
The business is Cake Ambition: Our recent Best of Detroit issue named it for Best Cakes, likely because of all the fantastic cakes the company has produced, ranging from a pirate ship to a bust of Lionel Richie. And owner Jessica Bouren tells us she was contracted to make a cake celebrating the building's completed renovation, which made her finished confection twice as sweet.
