One of the finest new restaurants to open in 2018 in Detroit was Rocco's Italian Deli, which began serving sandwiches out of its small Cass Corridor shop last June.

Owners Gabe Guido, Jeff Guido, and Kyle Mrkva don't have a bad sandwich on the roster, much of which we detailed in our June story, Cass Corridor deli Rocco's is an Italian sandwich paradise.

So how did the Rocco's crew go about building paradise? It might surprise you to learn that process involved a shirtless man wiping the sweat off his brow with an Italian sandwich, a Nonna knifing her grandson, and no small amount skepticism.

It's true — Rocco's had the cameras rolling through planning and build out, and later distilled its footage into an eight-part Instagram comedy series that it is releasing on the deli's page. It's a rare look into all that goes into opening a restaurant in Detroit in 2018, and frankly, it's hilarious. Episodes one, two, three, and four are already live, with the promise that episodes five through eight will drop soon.

Rocco's Italian Deli is located at 3627 Cass Ave in Detroit, hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
