Pure Detroit has become something of a Motor City mini-empire since Shawn Santo and Kevin Borsay first opened their funky, Detroit-centric clothing and gift boutique six years ago. Since then, Pure Detroit has become the label of choice among hip Motown-lovers, with brightly vibrant apparel that boldly proclaims a proud love of D-town. There are two Pure Detroit locations, one in the New Center and one in the Guardian Building, and now the company has added a third store, this one dedicated to the high-art end of fashion. The Pure Detroit Design Lab rolls out the red carpet for a grand opening bash this Friday, Nov. 5. This recently opened store at 156 W. Congress will showcase cutting-edge fashion from Detroit designers — among them Sarah Lurtz, Monica Sklar and Zack Ostrowski. Each month the store will highlight a new designer — look for the featured sartorial artist in the store’s expansive front window. In addition to couture for one’s body, the boutique will also offer locally produced artwork and photography to dress your pad in style. The Design Lab’s grand opening party, the White Shirt Show, features the work of about 30 artists, who were each given a basic white top and encouraged to make it their own.
