A-Frames
“Police 1000” b/w “Traction”
S-S Records

Culled from some of their first recording sessions nearly five years ago, this A-Frames single captures them in all of their danceable dissonant glory. The A-side — about a friend’s motorcycle — bops along merrily with a bass groove that could’ve been an ice cream truck ditty in its mind-numbing glory. The flip follows a familiar ’Frames theme of medical maladies (see later songs like “Crutches” or “Hospital”) and just begs the listener to clap along with the cheeky hook of “You got me in traction, traction, traction. ...” While their latest album (this year’s Black Forest on Sub Pop) is filled with narcissistic negativity, this single shows that the sun sometimes shines on the sad.
