May is the month that the music performing right organizations BMI and ASCAP host various annual songwriting award banquets in Los Angeles. The dinners are always a blast -- and Detroit "garage rock" made a strong showing at the Ascap Film & TV Awards last Tuesday, May 6th at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills when our own Jason Stollsteimer of the Von Bondies (whoever comprises that unit these days) took home a Top Television Series Theme Song trophy for "C'mon C'mon," as heard on FX-TV's Rescue Me series. Fellow award winners Quincy Jones and Barbra Streisand, among numerous other celebs, were in the audience to cheer Mr. Stollsteimer on. Congratulations, dude. Cool honors, indeed.

The Von Bondies return to the D to play their first hometown show in four years at the Majestic Theatre as part of Detour's Rock City fest on Friday, June 13th.
