Toledo's sludge-funk trouncing murk-pop grooving duo Silent Lions' premiered a music video at last night's show (down in their hometown, just an hour south and over the river from MT HQ) and it's a dazzlingly/hauntingly lit ethereal collage of starkly shadowed, angular and claustrophobic early German Expressionism with lysergic laced avant-gardist layers making a marvelous mess of their post-everything indie-rocker blues ballad's yearning for escape... ...only to be pursued by this frayed incorporeal boogeyman.
Walking Dead rise from the waters in our introduction and then we're left with our two Lions (electro-bass aggrivating singer Dean Tartaglia and drummer/singer Matt Klein) anxiously jamming it out on their instruments inside a dim, spooky haunted house. Then the second chorus fades away (something about "...this town...brought me to my knees...so I better leave...") and leave, or, break-out...they do! Only now our boys are drowned out by film scrolling across their faces of some nervous heroine spastic and breathless, running for her life from this zombie-type-dude.
There's probably a grand metaphor that could include the Recession or scene politics or being behind on your rent -as epitomized by the zombie- a thing...to escape-from...
But the important part of it is that you listen to their intriguing blend of garage grime and spaced-out synth-rock.
The duo's out on a quick rustbelt/east-coast tour right now. They're "this close..." (writer nearly pinches his index-finger and thumb together...) ...to being all but adopted by our scene here. (Tartaglia's already got roots with his tenure in the Sights). They'll be back for Blowout -in Ferndale.
