Metro Detroit music hot spots named 'Greatest American Venues'

When it comes to national publications ranking random shit, Detroit is usually a) not featured at all, or b) cast in a negative light. So this writer was pretty stoked when flipping through Consequence of Sound's 100 Greatest American Venues list and noticed that three(!!!) metro Detroit venues made the list.

First up at #92 is The Crofoot in Pontiac. We were a little surprised to see The Crofoot on this list, but when you think about it The Crofoot has everything that a music lover loves. There are technically three venues inside the joint (The Crofoot, the Pike Room, and the Vernors Room), a friendly staff, and sound quality that isn't too shabby. Plus, the building is one of the oldest and most historic places in downtown Pontiac.

Next up on the list is one of Detroit's most eclectic venues, The UFO Factory at #74. CoS praises The UFO Factory as being a prime example of the "New Detroit." The funky building is nestled perfectly in the Corktown neighborhood and is one of the best places to catch any Detroit punk band that lives and breaths DIY like Pretty Ghouls. Plus, you can easily catch some national touring bands before they hit it big and move up to places like St. Andrew's Hall and The Fillmore.

And lastly at #52 is Ann Arbor's most celebrated club, The Blind Pig

Really no surprise there, artists often refer to the venue as a 'must play' location, and it's long been a place where you can see the best up-and-coming talent (before it costs you an arm and a leg). After all these years, clearly The Blind Pig has earned its world-class designation.
