You might know Danny Kroha from his work in the Darleans, the Demolition Doll Rods, and the Readies — but he's probably best known as one-third of the garage rock greats,
the Gories. The guitar player gets profiled in an intimate new video by
Zach Weedon (Mexican Knives, the Dirtbombs) and Wesley Levise, which we're happy to premiere on
MT.
In the video, Kroha opens up about his influences ("Anything with a washboard and a jug in it, I'm into it"), the origin of the Gories ("Between the two of us, we added up to one normal guitar player"), and even plays along to some of his favorite records.
It's not the first video profile of a Detroit musician that Weedon has created. He and filmmaker Chris Hersey
profiled techno pioneer Derrick May (who Weedon covered with the Dirtbombs on
Party Store) for
Wax Poetics earlier this year, and Weedon tells us that more interviews with other Detroit musicians are planned.
