On April 20, the world got its first glimpse of the cover art for hip-hop recording artists J. Cole's newest album, KOD. We missed this the first time around, but it turns out KOD is designed by a Detroit-based artist.

A piece in Vibe zooms in on the Detroit artist, Sixmau, who created the trippy album art. As the artist Q&A makes clear, Sixmau is a home-grown Detroiter who has been posting his art on Instagram since he was young enough to draw anime characters. The artist said that J. Cole discovered him through his work for Atlanta-based rapper Childish Major.

Sixmau recently dropped out of art school and as mentioned in the Vibe profile, his phone has been blowing up since his work on KOD appeared.

Starting in August, J. Cole will tour on the KOD album, arriving in Detroit in September with Young Thug.
