Iggy Pop to star in 'the loudest silent movie on Earth'

Iggy Pop, Grace Jones, Henry Rollins, and the Eagles of Death Metal's Jesse Hughes are some of the rock stars attached to a new project that bills itself as "the loudest silent movie on Earth" — and it sounds like it will be totally insane.

The film is called Gutterdämmerung, and it's being described as a "dark fairytale" helmed by Swedish visual artist Bjorn Tagemose (via Pitchfork). Like classic 1920s movies, Gutterdämmerung will contain no spoken dialogue, but screenings will feature a soundtrack performed by a live rock band (with pyrotechnics). Tagemose will announce more names in the coming weeks. The plan is to tour the film with a live band and narrator in late 2015 and early 2016.

The plot has something to do with God taking rock 'n' roll away from humanity. Pop will play the punk rock angel "Vicious," who sends rock 'n' roll back to earth. Or something? We're already on board.

Last year, it was revealed that Pop would star as a serial killer in an upcoming film called The Sandman. He will also star as an aging rock star (hmmm) in an upcoming film called Blood Orange.
