City Slang: Michigan company gets a grip

Plymouth-based company Grip Studios has come out with a very cool range of guitar hangers, just in time for Christmas.

The hangers, which are wall mountable, look like a variety of hands, from the zombie hand to the tree stump hand.

According to the press release, “Grip Studios’ custom guitar hangars retail for around $39 and were recently spotlighted nationally in Musician’s Friend catalog. These popular guitar accessories are also available through Amazon.com and in hundreds of retail outlets in the U.S. Custom painted guitar hangars, including hand-carved and one-of-a-kind artist series are also available for $39-$90 on the Grip Studios’ web site at GuitarGrip.com.”

Grip Studios had a modest beginning in 2007. Company founder Mike Ryan along with his parents Dale and Sylvia hatched the first guitar grip from the kitchen table in a small apartment in Plymouth, Michigan. Since then (and with the help of his family – Mike’s sister and grandmother all have roles in the company) - Grip Studios’ custom guitar hangers have secured international distribution, and they now regularly ship product to 13 countries.

In 2011 the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) named Grip Studios’ Custom Guitar Hangars “Hottest New Product to Stock in LA!” Counting Velvet Revolver (and former Guns N Roses) bassist Duff McKagan among fans of Grip Studios’ custom guitar hangers, this homegrown company may soon be a household name among musicians worldwide.
