Siegel was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1876, arriving in Detroit five years later. After managing a women’s apparel department at a store on Woodward Avenue, he later purchased the shop and changed the name to B. Siegel Company. By 1904, he was selling upscale women’s and children’s clothes and furs to the silk stocking trade. After World War II, at least seven B. Siegel stores operated in the metropolitan area. Following Siegel's death in 1936, the company remained open until entering bankruptcy in 1981.
