The People Mover is celebrating a very special birthday this year — the big 3-0.
That's right, the People Mover is thirty and flirty and
giving out free rides today, July 31, to celebrate the big day.
On July 31, 1987, the People Mover first took riders around the loop of downtown Detroit and has been doing so ever since, 65 million people to be exact.
In addition to the free rides on the People Mover today, Detroit Water Ice will be giving out free samples at the Grand Circus Park and Financial District Stations to celebrate the big milestone.
And while you're taking your free ride on the People Mover today, check out
this cover story where staff writer Ryan Felton rode the People Mover for 12 hours.
