Detroit is the second worst city for renters, says study

According to a recent study, Detroit is no place for renters.

The study, published on July 26 by Wallet Hub, compared the 150 U.S. cities with the largest rental markets based on 21 measures of "living quality" and "attractiveness." Detroit clocked in at number 149.

But what made the Motor City deserving of such a low mark? Wallet Hub's website says the data set "ranges from historical rental-price changes to cost of living to jobs availability." Two key factors seem to play a role in Detroit's poor ranking: It came in as the third least affordable rental city, and has the 11th highest "Rent to Price Ratio" on the list.

Detroit also fell at 146 for a supplementary "Quality of Life" ranking and at 114 for a "Rent Market & Affordability" rank. This may not be the best of news, but let's hope we'll see our city rise to the top in years to come.
