Fastball will continue to depress us at Saint Andrew's Hall

In 1998, Fastball rocked the Billboard charts with a catchy song that felt like a good time until we learned that the song actually had a really morbid backstory about an elderly couple that disappeared in Texas — and suddenly “The Way” tricked us into happily mouthing the words of a low-key tragedy. Since depressing us 20 years ago, Fastball has continued to release engaging work without overwhelming radio saturation. Their sixth studio album Step Into Light (released earlier this year), maintains their knack for clever songwriting and well-crafted hooks, reminding us that Fastball is not just a disappearing act.

Doors open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Saint Andrew's Hall; 431 E. Congress St., Detroit; 313-961-8961; saintandrewsdetroit.com; Tickets start at $23.
