Detroit's new book store: Pages Bookshop

A new book store? In 2015? It's a reality, and it's out in the neighborhoods.

It's called Pages Bookshop, and we got our wires crossed a little bit last weekend, so we missed a chance to help hype some events they had over the weekend, including a talk from an author and a celebration of National Bookstore Day on May 2. 

Apparently, Pages was a pop-up bookstore at Always Brewing Detroit, the coffee shop on Grand River Avenue. It also seems that the owner, Susan Murphy, had been trying to find a brick-and-mortar space for a bookshop since 2013, but kept encountering the usual problems. The good news is that, with the assistance of the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation, she found a space on Grand River, and now it's built out into a real, old-fashioned bookstore.

Like a lot of recent entries in the book selling field, it seems like a finely tuned boutique that has an emphasis on the local, as much a place for book-lovers to buy books as to gather and discuss books. And if this weekend was any clue, there should be plenty of events coming up.
