Italian eatery Arthur Avenue will open in Birmingham on Dec. 1, marking the sixth installment for restaurateur Zack Sklar's Peas & Carrots Hospitality. The new restaurant is located at 260 N. Old Woodward Ave. and will share a 2,500-square-foot kitchen with French bistro Au Cochon, which opened its doors in September.

Named in homage to a street in the Bronx in New York famous for its many Italian dining establishments, Arthur Street will offer a variety of old-school Italian American entrees and appetizers, including mozzarella sticks, Bruschetta, chicken, veal or pork chop Marsala, eggplant or chicken parmesan with marinara and mozzarella, and chicken Vesuvio with garlic butter, as well as a number of pasta dishes.

“Arthur Avenue in the Bronx stays true to its Italian roots. Here in Birmingham, our diners will enjoy amazing food and cocktails as part of a genuine Little Italy neighborhood restaurant experience,” says Sklar in a news release today. He developed the menu with executive Chef Mark Barbarich, who also heads Au Cochon.

The opening was long-awaited as Sklar dealt with drama earlier this year with Birmingham city officials over a request for an outdoor dining platform. Other Peas & Carrots restaurants include: Social Kitchen & Bar also in Birmingham, MEX and Beau’s Grillery in Bloomfield Hills and Bernie’s Lunch & Supper in Chicago.
