Sweet treats

If, by chance, you luck out and somebody makes a romantic dinner for you, don’t forget to bring a gift. On television, the gift is either wine or chocolate — as both supposedly make it easier to get people out of their clothes. Personally, ladies, I prefer beer and meat.

Francis Ford Coppola also makes wine; for example, you can get a bottle of his own label of Chardonnay for $15.95. If you go the chocolate route, and are in a hurry, stop by the drugstore or Meijer (if it is late) and pick up the Russell Stover Elvis Presley Valentines Day Greetings heart-shaped box of chocolates (only $3.99!).

If you’re classy and plan ahead, my friend Courtney at Gayle’s Chocolates (call 248-398-0001; they’re on Washington in Royal Oak) says a red, satiny box of hand-dipped chocolate truffles ($17) or a gold-colored flower box of three chocolate roses ($16) would make for more traditional, romantic gifts.
