Once Around Belle Isle Festival comes to Detroit this weekend

The first-ever paddle race and festival is coming to Belle Isle this weekend and you, dear metro Detroiter, are invited to attend or — better yet — participate.

Once Around Belle Isle, or OABI as it is affectionately called, is a 7-mile race around the island in which folks with moderate to advanced paddling abilities give old Belle the go around with nothing but a paddle and their own two arms. Mode of transportation is up the participants, so expect everything from stand-up paddleboaters, to kayakers, and more.

For those who'd rather stay shoreside, there are activities aplenty: live musical performances, food trucks, local vendors, and craft beer stands to name a few.

Advance tickets and registration information is available at oabidetroit.com. Cost and additional race info can be found there as well.
