H&M will span three Albert Kahn designed buildings

International fast fashion retail giant H&M plans to open the doors to its first Detroit location as early as this fall. The announcement came Wednesday morning via H&M's new Detroit landlord, Bedrock, and outlined the plans for the 25,000-square-foot store which will span three stories and three buildings along the west side of Woodward Avenue and John R. Street.

The addition of H&M to Detroit's recently developed retail landscape, which includes Madewell, Nike, Warby Parker, Under Armour, Bonobos, and Lululemon, is noted to be the largest retail tenant in Bedrock's portfolio. H&M will be the first downtown retailer to offer men's, women's, and children's apparel in decades.

Bedrock founder, Dan Gilbert says that H&M will add to the "unparalleled momentum" of Detroit's progress and that his hope is for H&M shoppers to forge their own memories of spending money downtown similarly to those who remember the experiences of shopping at JL Hudson’s department store.

The Detroit location will be H&M's 18th Michigan store.
