The troubled territory where the global economy intersects with social justice will be explored in a new documentary airing on public television in Detroit.
"Globalization & Human Rights" looks in detail at how the spread of multinational corporations creates an "emerging conflict ... between those making macro-economic decisions and those struggling to cope with the impact of those decisions," according to producers Danny Schechter and Rory O'Connor.
Beginning with a summit for corporate decision makers in the Alps, the program connects dots in places as far-flung as Shell oil fields in Nigeria and Nike shoe factories in Asia.
"At the core of the program," say the producers, "is the ongoing debate over whether or not human rights concerns should be linked to economic policies."
The program airs at 4 p.m. Sunday on WTVS (Channel 56).
