Drinkin’ with donkeys

Remember childhood birthday parties, where you were blindfolded, spun around and told to pin a paper tail on a drawing of a tailless donkey? It seems that this children’s game is about to be played by adults — minus the blindfold and paper tails, but with the much-welcomed addition of alcohol. Also, plenty of donkeys — in the form of Democrats —will be on hand. Whether they bare their asses remains to be seen, but we guess that’s at least a distant possibility since, as we mentioned, cocktails will be available to help enliven a night of political chit-chat. Pleasant Ridge resident Megan Bonanni and her friends have organized a Democratic presidential candidates’ forum they’re calling “Pinning the tail on your donkey.”

Bonanni says she and her pals were frustrated with how little they knew about the candidates and invited representatives of each one to talk to them – and any other interested voter.

Except for the Rev. Al Sharpton, all agreed to send someone to the event, which is at the Royal Oak restaurant boocoo. Each rep will have two minutes to tout their man. The rest of the evening will be devoted to one-on-one conversations between voters and the reps. Did we mention that drinking is an option?

“We think we will have areas at the restaurant for each [one] to set up a table and you can stroll around and approach them with specific questions,” says Bonanni. “The idea is to strip down pomp and circumstance.”

So, there might be some bare asses after all?

Except for the cocktails, the event is free and all are welcome.

“Pin the Tail on your Donkey” is Tuesday, Feb. 3, 6-9 p.m., at boocoo at 1824 W. 14 Mile Road.
