Cockrel remembered at WSU

Wayne State University will host a reception to mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of Wayne State University alumnus and former Detroit City Council member Kenneth Cockrel on Thursday, May 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Wayne State’s St. Andrew’s Church.

The reception, "A Room for Kenny," will support a fund to name part of the new Wayne State University Law School Building after Cockrel. Construction is scheduled to begin in June.

Featured speakers include Wayne State President Irvin Reid; Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer; Cockrel’s widow, Detroit City Council Member Sheila Cockrel, and their daughter, Katherine Cockrel; and Cockrel’s son, Detroit City Council member Kenneth Cockrel Jr.
