Abandoned Shelter of the Week

Feb 6, 2002 at 12:00 am
A young family might consider purchasing this burned-out, red brick fixer-upper, sans windows and doors, on Detroit’s east side at 3906 Marlborough. Assessed at $6,700 by the city, this week’s abandoned house offers abundant room for a playscape and swing set, since several empty lots grace each side of this 78-year-old dwelling. In fact, just a few homes, including this torched remnant, stand on the lonely block. If there are no takers, maybe Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who says he is eager to tear down homes near public schools, could make it a priority to demolish this 828-square- foot monstrosity, which sits a block from McNair Technical Middle School.
