Following up on their Here's the Whirlwind EP, released in January of this year, as well as a slot at last week's Comerica Cityfest, Mick Bassett and the Marthas will be releasing a new seven-inch vinyl single, "Bird on the Line" b/w "The Keepers," via Ben Blackwell's Cass Records label a week from this Friday, July 18. That same night, three days after a gig at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, the band will be celebrating the release with a show at the Lager House in Detroit, before they kick off a three-week U.S. tour. A press release describes "Bird on the Line" as "a whimsically, dark jaunt through Bassett's world of youth, love, hope, and sin," while "The Keepers" is "a raw acoustic performance with provokingly critical lyrics of observation and consequence." The band was kind enough to send an mp3 of the Dylanesque (that's our description) "Bird On The Line" with the announcement, so check it out here.
