The aesthetic of Seattle-based indie outfit Car Seat Headrest can be condensed to “Nervous Young Inhumans” — the lead single from 2018’s Twin Fantasy.

“You swore you’d never use the face that your ex invented/ So let’s meet up in uncanny valley,” sings Car Seat’s anxious and tight-lipped founder Will Toledo, blending both personal reference and literary imagery. For fans of The National, Deer Tick, and maybe even early Beck, Car Seat Headrest panders effortlessly to first-person narratives, wandering souls, uncertain lovers, and admirers of “road-trip rock.”

Car Seat Headrest will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Majestic Theatre; 4140 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-833-9700; majesticdetroit.com; Tickets are $20-$25.
