No, they haven’t changed their program into a freak show — the Windsor Symphony Orchestra is simply getting into the Halloween spirit. This week, as part of their Family Jamboree series, the WSO presents Trick or Treat!, an all-ages musical offering that’ll get you in the mood for this spooky time of year.
“We have been doing the Halloween concert for the last two years,” says Susan McKee, director of marketing for the WSO. “Each year the theme is a little different.”
This year, the hour-long concert will include symphonic pieces from popular flicks such as Harry Potter, The Addams Family and Star Wars, and should offer up a hilarious eyeful, as the orchestra members will be dressed in costume.
At 2003’s Trick or Treat! event, WSO music director John Morris Russell — dressed as a wizard — ascended through the stage floor to kick things off.
The crowd loved it.
“The program is created in the same way as all our ‘Fam-Jam’ concerts: one part classic orchestral favorites and two parts fun,” says Russell.
“From the special decorations and costuming to lighting and sound effects, we present a Halloween orchestral experience with a twist.”
Patrons are encouraged to dress up in costume as well.
Ten lucky concertgoers will win prizes and be given the opportunity to take part in the WSO Costume Fashion Parade during the concert. The costume contest starts at 1:30 p.m., an hour before the concert.
Trick or Treat! takes place on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2:30 p.m. at the Chrysler Theatre (201 Riverside Drive, Windsor). Tickets are $12 for kids 14 and under/$20 for adults. Call 519-252-6579 for further information.
