Named for one of exploitation filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis' most fun flicks, the Gore Gore Girls emerged from Detroit's late 1990s garage renaissance. Playboy, of all places, compared their distinctly poppy brand of garage to the work of Holly Golightly, the Chalets, and the Pipettes.

The Gore Gore Girls toured the world for years, playing with acts like The Cramps, Shonen Knife, Eagles of Death Metal, and Reverend Horton Heat.

They've reformed to play live for the first time in eight years for a select slate of six gigs, and the two area ones are tonight, May 5, at Mac's in Lansing; and tomorrow, May 6 at Marble Bar. Half the band currently lives in California, so this is not likely to happen again too soon.
