David Lynch

When David Lynch describes you as “the most beautiful alien ever,” you take that as a compliment and run with it — which is exactly what model, actress, and singer-songwriter Chrysta Bell did when the pair met in 1999.

Bell, who is as much of a muse to Lynch as, say, Laura Dern, released two collaborations with the beloved cult-director before landing a role as “Blue Rose” Agent Tammy Preston in 2017’s Twin Peaks: The Return. Last month saw the release of Bell’s Lynch-less Feels Like Love. Her third solo record continues the 41-year-old’s journey through Portishead-esque pop and fascination with nature with a bit of psychedelia for good measure, as evidenced by “52 Hz” — a song inspired by a marine biologist’s study of the world’s loneliest whale, who sings in a frequency no other whales can hear.

Chrysta Bell will perform at 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at the Detroit Institute of Arts; 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-833-7900; dia.org. Event is free.
