Shoppers who love having another reason to hit Detroit for some retail therapy will be delighted come mid-May. A new store, called NVL DET, plans to open by the time Movement is setting up in Hart Plaza.
The guy behind RUBBED and Alley Taco, Jason Frenkel, is also behind the new store. He says the space is currently being built out and he's looking for brands to sell in the store.
The way brands are sold will be a little different at NVL than at other locally-owned boutiques. Frenkel says NVL will rent out space in their store (kind of like consignment, but not quite) and brands will be able to make the space they rent all their own by bringing in the brand's specific aesthetic for that space.
Right now Frenkel says he's in talks with big brands like Levi and Vans, who he'd like to have featured in the store. He's also looking for Michigan-based brands, from start-ups to more established companies, to be featured at NVL.
He says anywhere from 10 to 20 brands will be featured in the store at any time, and that the shop will focus on carrying culture items like bikes (specifically a brand from Amsterdam), skateboards, clothing, shoes, rolling papers, and more.
NVL DET will be located at 4737 Grand River Ave., Detroit. Check on their Facebook page for more info.
