How much for that doggy in the window? If you decide to adopt this Saturday, October 14 then that little doggy or cat will be completely free.

The Empty the Shelters pet adoption event is returning for an entire day of free pet adoptions so shelters can make room for more rescue animals.

There are dozens of participating animal shelters in Michigan where you can get a free pup or kitty, along with some locations in the Chicago area as well.

In metro Detroit, shelters like the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit, Almost Home Animal Rescue League in Southfield, and Do Only Good Animal Rescue in Auburn Hills are all participating. To see a full list of participating shelters, click here.

A lot of these shelters require you to fill out an application with approval, so it's better to do some research and make sure you're approved before heading to a shelter on Saturday.

Hopefully you'll give an animal their fur-ever home this weekend!
