Don't drink and drive tonight, Detroit

Nov 25, 2015 at 10:20 am
The night before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest bar nights of the year and 2015, it seems, is no exception with a slew of Thanksgiving Eve parties and choice musical acts, including Danny Brown and the Codgers, all slated for this evening.

But it's also one of the biggest drunk driving times of the year, with DUI arrests at their highest points between Thanksgiving Eve and the end of New Year’s weekend.

In efforts to get more inebriated drivers off the road, the Royal Oak Police Department and Uber have partnered up. “This Wednesday is our busiest night of the year, and the Royal Oak Police Department will have a lot of extra patrol officers out with a focus on keeping drunk drivers off the road," Chief of Police Corrigan O’Donahue said recently. “We strongly encourage any alternative to getting behind the wheel after drinking. Uber is a great option to ensure you get home safely."

To that end, Uber is offering two free $15 rides for new users with the code SAFERIDEMI. There you have it — another reason not to drink and drive tonight, folks.
