A group is raising funds to make what they're billing as Detroit's first "augmented reality" street art mural.
According to its Patronicity site, Electrifly Detroit is planning to create a mural on the site of the Elephant Room (the former Mr. Steven's Bar) located next to Saint Andrew's Hall. The idea is that visitors will be able to use a smartphone or tablet to scan the artwork, which would then be animated on their screen. (Think of it as similar to the DIA's new augmented reality program, Lumin, which allows guests to interact with select art objects at the museum.)
"Augmented Reality (AR), is a technology that overlays computer-generated images, sounds, or other data on a user's real-world environment," the group explains on the Patronicity page. "Our vision is to bring these advancements in technology to a public space in the heart of Detroit."
The planned design is a 35-foot-by-20-foot mural of a three-headed elephant, which will be painted by street artist Ken Dushane III (Phybr).
