That’s entertaining — Want to network and learn more about the role of African-American women business leaders in entertainment? Then come by the Whitney Mansion in mid-city Detroit on July 13. The Detroit Network will be hosting “Cocktails, Conversation and Networking” for the group Black Female Executives in Entertainment. In addition to encouraging networking, the event will also raise money for the group’s scholarship fund, while creating a dialogue with corporations. Guests will enjoy an evening of hors d’oeuvres, jazz and spoken word by various artists such as Celly K. and Deblon Jackson. Come and mingle with who’s who in the media, entertainment, radio, law, corporate partners and other professionals in the industry. The event is $25 for nonmembers and $20 for members. Proper dress required. The event takes place 6-9 p.m. For tickets and further information, call 248-372-7072.

Strike two — We here at Proactive usually don’t repeat column items, but we’re making an exception this week. That’s because we really, really want people to turn out and help raise some cash for the newspaper workers on strike at the Vindicator in Youngstown, Ohio. The event, which will feature a tasty spaghetti dinner made by the Wobbly Kitchen crew, will also serve as a reunion for the steadfast souls who went out on strike at Detroit’s two daily papers way back in the last century. Could it really have been 10 years ago? Food gets served at 5 p.m. Cost is $20. Along with the yummy chow there’ll also be music from Chris Buhalis and some kick-ass speakers. This “Solidarity Reunion” takes place at UAW Local 909 Hall, 5587 Stephens Rd. (north of Nine Mile Road and west of Mound Road) in Warren.
