Around 10:10 p.m., a component on the rear car of a People Mover train dislodged after leaving the Michigan Avenue station, according to city officials. This caused the train to lean into the track, and when it arrived at the Times Square station, the car derailed.
The city says the remaining automated trains were directed to their next station; all passengers exited, with no reported injuries. At 10:30 p.m., the entire system was closed so a maintenance team could begin an inspection. The component failure was isolated to the one car only, and the affected train has since been removed from service.
Trains will be released gradually back into service this morning, the city says, and arrival times will be slightly affected.
