Misunderstood URLs — Normally we here at Backslash absolutely detest e-mail forwards, but for once we got one that was pretty damn funny — and true.
The e-mail pointed out a handful of URLs — some registered by real, honest-to-gosh businesses — that just don’t read as they should (trust us, we can sympathize, especially when our News Hits department gets e-mails sent to [email protected]). First is a searchable database of talent agencies, called Who Represents, at whorepresents.com.
Then there’s the Experts Exchange, a resource for tech support: expertsexchange.com.
Someone decided that “Pen Island” would make a great name for a pen company; unfortunately, it doesn’t make for the best URL: penisland.net. (The site has the following disclaimer: We have received a number of complaints from people concerned with vulgar e-mails coming from our domain, PenIsland.net. We can assure you that these e-mails are forged, and that we did not send them.”
However, it looks like penisland.com is not about writing implements.
