These awesome Bowery Electric tracks from the '90s are the only sort-of-danceable shoegaze you need today

My Bloody Valentine allegedly spent much of the mid 1990s working on next-level, smudged, weird dance music that recreated jungle beats and (naturally) added disorienting guitars on top of it. The band holed up in a house, created their own studio, and then proceeded to fight with their equipment, raise too many chinchillas, fracture as a band, and never release that music. 


Thankfully, there were others who dabbled in intentionally smeared, often lovely shoegaze that incorporated electronic beats, from slo-mo/downtempo to jungle/ breakbeat-style.


British acts like Main, AMP and Third Eye Foundation luxuriated in their own exhilarating pockets of this territory. But today we're here to remember the lovely music that New York act Bowery Electric made, over the course of a few records and several singles and EPs, for Kranky and then Beggars Banquet, in the mid to late 1990s.


Most of Bowery Electric's music sounds remarkably fresh today.


Who's going to reissue their finest work, 1996's Beat, on vinyl? It's not an easy score these days.
