Voices of Light

In 1986, Morrissey claimed to know how Joan of Arc felt on “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” and described how the “flames rose to her Roman nose.” More than an icon of emo culture, martyr and saint Joan of Arc is perhaps one of the most misunderstood women in history. She heard voices — divine voices — and led a French army against English occupation. Enter composer Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light, a haunting score inspired by women writers of the Middle Ages. Against the choral reprise of the Rackham Choir, Voices of Light will accompany a screening of the silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc.
