Rain Garden Planting at LaNita’s Pocket Park

Friends of the Rouge is calling for volunteers to install and steward a butterfly rain garden at LaNita’s Pocket Park in Detroit. The park is in memoriam of LaNita, a lifelong resident and pillar of the Detroit community who loved the artist, Prince. The park features a Prince walking path flanked by native gardens that were installed last year. Rain gardens prevent sewage discharged into the Rouge and Detroit rivers during times of rain, and create a beautiful space for people to gather. This year, volunteers are called upon to plant 2,000 sq. ft. of additional gardens.
