Outsider soul crooner Beal can’t help but be original. His work is as likely to be haunting as it is intentionally hilarious, and it always has a real emotional core to it. This is no ironic bullshit; it’s genuine art, which is why it’s fabulous that Beal is recording with indie-rock royalty and is the star of the new Sundance hit Memphis. This might be your last chance to see him in an intimate setting.
