RIP D12 rapper Proof's mother Sherallene “Pepper” Holton-White

This morning we learned from the website All hip-Hop that Detroit hip-hop great Proof's mother Sherallene “Pepper” Holton-White has passed away. Proof passed away in 2006, of course, but Ms. Holton-White herself remained a fixture of the local scene. Like Dilla's mother, she was always in the mix. We wish her friends and family the best.

The mother of Detroit legend Proof has died.

Sherallene “Pepper” Holton-White, known to most as Mama P has passed away. Mrs. Holton-White was known in Detroit for her big personality, owning several of her own social clubs. She also greatly valued education completing a Master’s degree just months before her passing.

After the death of her only child, DeShaun “Proof” Holton in 2006, Mrs. Holton-White went on to establish The Proof Foundation. The foundation was established to support music programs in Detroit Public Schools, and also hosted annual candlelight vigils on the anniversary of Proof’s death.

Sherallene Holton-White leaves to mourn siblings, nieces and nephews, five grandchildren, and the entire Detroit Hip-Hop Community. She was 64 years old. Funeral services have yet to be set.
