When singer-songwriter KT Tunstall appeared solo, armed with nothing but an acoustic guitar, a tambourine, and a loop pedal on Later... With Jools Holland in 2004, the world was gifted one of the top bangers of the early aughts — “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree.” Oh, and then she dropped the uplifting earworm “Suddenly I See,” further cementing the Scottish-American performer as a purveyor of catchy pop-rock hits. Since her 2004 debut, Tunstall still sports the best bangs this side of the ’00s and has six records under her belt, including 2018’s Wax, which finds the 43-year-old tapping into dancier stylistic tendencies and a deeper channeling of her soaring rock voice.

KT Tunstall will perform at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at El Club; 4114 W. Vernor Hwy., Detroit; 313-872-1000; elclubdetroit.com. Tickets are $25+.
