Haven't been to the DIA in a while? The museum has a few offerings that would make it a great way to spend time with the family in that stretch between Christmas and New Years Eve.
In the spirit of giving, the museum is offering free screenings of two animated features being at the Detroit Film Theatre. The screenings are free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
From Saturday to Monday, Dec. 26–28, catch When Marnie Was There, potentially the final film from the acclaimed Japanese animators, Studio Ghibli. When Marnie Was There has showtimes at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
On Tuesday to Thursday, Dec. 29-31, the DFT is showing the Brazilian animated film Boy and the World. Screen times are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 3 p.m. on Thursday.
The museum will have special holiday hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28.
Additionally, guests have free admission to the special exhibition 30 Americans from Dec. 28–Jan. 3 and on the exhibition's closing day, Monday Jan. 18. The provocative exhibit features artwork from 30 notable African-American artists. Read our review of 30 Americanshere.
