Q: What's your take on the spiritual or religious aspect of the Dark Carnival mythos?

A:You know, that’s really deep. Bottom line, I’m straight-up Christian, and I believe in God. At the end of the day, it's apparent that the Insane Clown Posse believes in God. They understand that there is definitely a higher power. And although this is a touchy subject, my friend, there is also the Dark Carnival, which is led by the Ringmaster. And it's all about karma, built on positive and negative energy. And that's basically where the Hatchet Man comes into play. You have a choice. In all walks of life, you can either be on the dark side or walk in the light. Whether you do or you don't believe, that's up to you as an individual.

And I would like to say that the Dark Carnival has an equal balance. Sometimes you wanna, you know, be on the lighter side of things, like a good Wizard of the Hood EP, or go ahead and put on Shangri-La or you could put on Hell’s Pit and really go to a whole different world that I don’t suggest you dwell in. It’s fun to walk in the light, but to every now and again play some hopscotch over in the dark, you know what I mean? I definitely believe with being a good person, every now and again you still gotta do a little bad, my friend, to remember how good it is to be good. Or to remember that, you know, we’re all sinners.

Even up until the late '90s, you might wonder where ICP's beliefs were. When they really, really started to become successful, it was very apparent that they might smash your fucking head in if you crossed ’em, but, if not, man, those are two of the coolest, most generous, fun-filled entertainers that walk the planet. And that’s all due to the Dark Carnival, and that’s all due to karma, my friend, and that’s all due to God. And that’s the truth.

A lot of the cats that had been down with them for a long time got kind of skittish when all of a sudden they were like, "Yeah, you know, the truth is we follow God. He's always been behind this. The Carnival is God, may all Juggalos find him." That's word for word their lyric. You know what I mean? May all Juggalos find him, and this is all thanks to God. I mean, that's right there in "Shangri-La." It's amazing. And that turned off some. But for those that it turned off, they've gained so many that it's not even funny.
